                                                        INTRODUCTION
 

Morena was known as Mayur Van because a large number of Peacocks were found in Morena district. It is also said that Lord Krishna killed Devil Mur here. Therefore. the place is known Morena . Later it was converted to Morena,


Geographically the district is set like a Jewel in the Crown of Madhya Pradesh. It forms the northern boundary of the state its main river Chambal marks the natural dividing line between M.P.,U.P., and Rajasthan. The northern central railway line and famous Agra- Bombay road passes though the direct head quarter. Recently the road is being developed with the financial assistance of the Government of India. This road named as Golden Square Express High way, Will facilitate the development of the district. The district is covered with 6 Tehsils and Seven Blocks,

A. Geographical Condition:-

The district is spread in an area of 5017 Sq. Km. from Porsa, sabalagarh and the distance between them is about 140 km. It lies between 2 55”-26” 52’ North latitude and 77” 10 –78”42’ East longitude . The district situated about 150 M –300 M above the mean sea level. The south western part of the district
is covered with thick forest. The eastern part is mostly plain criss crossed by rivers. This regional imbalance is reflected in educational disparity in comparison to parts of district


The district is blessed with the river Chambal , Kwari , Sank and Asan these flows mostly through its plains and fall in sindh and chambal. Rivinesare found in different shapes like V,W,E,S and L, Two Dams Pagara and Kotwal built across them have been irrigating the district even prior to the construction of Chambal Canal .
